Wood icon, "Saint Claudius", miniature, 7x10cm

Hand painted wood icon of Saint Claudius. Miniature measuring 7x10 cm. Original artwork.
On November 9, the Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Claudius, along with the Holy Martyrs Castor, Sempronian, and Nicostratus, who lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305). The four were great masters in the art of marble sculpture, which is why the emperor was proud of them. They paid with their lives for their faith in God, refusing to carve in marble the image of the god Asclepius, a god considered a healer.
