Hand painted Orthodox icon on wood, "St. Callistratus of Timișeni and Vasiova and St. Ilarion Felea of Arad", miniature, 7x10cm
This hand-painted Orthodox icon on wood by Ana Drăgan represents two great saints of the Romanian Orthodox Church: St. Callistratus of Timișeni and Vasiova (feast day: May 10) and St. Hieromartyr Ilarion Felea of Arad (feast day: September 18). Miniature measuring 7x10 cm.
Saint Callistratus of Timișeni and Vasiova (1900–1975) was a renowned missionary priest in the Banat region.
He was born in Burdujeni (Suceava) and received his monastic formation at Sihăstria Monastery. In 1942, he was sent as a missionary priest to Banat, where he founded Timișeni Monastery and renewed the monastic life at Săraca, Partoș, and Vasiova.
For 33 years, Father Callistratus shone as a steadfast light for the monks and faithful of Banat. Through his humility and gentleness of heart, he received from God the gift of healing and of casting out unclean spirits from among people.
He fell asleep in the Lord on Easter Day in 1975.
Saint Hieromartyr Ilarion Felea (1903-1961) was a deeply esteemed preacher of the Gospel, valued both by the people and by the intellectuals of his time, in the mid-twentieth century. A professor at the Theological Academy of Arad, he authored many theological works, the most important being Toward Tabor, which Father Justin Pârvu considered “the finest work of Romanian Orthodoxy to this day.” Father Ilarion Felea is a true liturgical genius of Orthodox theology and of the Orthodox Church.
