This hand-painted miniature Orthodox icon on wood is an interpretation of the icon “Our Lady the Unfading Flower”, icon celebrated by the Orthodox Church on April 3.
The Mother of God is depicted in this icon holding Baby Jesus with her right arm, while in her left hand she carries a symbolic bouquet of flowers, among which white lilies predominate. The lily symbolises the unfading flower of the Most Pure Virgin Mary’s virginity and purity. In the hymns of the Church, she is praised with the words: “You are the root of virginity and the unfading Flower of purity.”
Original artwork by Ana Drăgan (DAM), painted in tempera colours.
