Hand painted Orthodox icon on wood, “St. Elizabeth of Pasărea”, miniature, 7x10cm
This hand-painted icon on wood depicts Saint Venerable Elizabeth of Pasărea, who was canonized by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church on July 1, 2025. She is commemorated each year on June 5.
Original artwork by Ana Drăgan (DAM), painted on wood in tempera colours.
Schema-nun Elizabeth Lazăr of Pasărea Monastery (1970–2014) - canonized under the name Saint Venerable Elizabeth of Pasărea - dedicated her entire life to Christ, embracing the monastic life at a young age. After many years in the monastery’s community, she served at the Romanian Settlement in Jerusalem before choosing a life of solitude and ascetic struggle in the Giumalău and Neamț Mountains.
Her life was marked by unceasing prayer, obedience, and ascetic devotion. Even during the years of severe illness, she remained steadfast in her monastic calling and faith, returning to Pasărea Monastery in the final months of her life, where she reposed in the Lord in 2014.
Through her humility, patience, and love for God, Saint Elizabeth remains for many faithful a model of authentic monastic life and wholehearted spiritual dedication.
