Hand-painted orthodox wood icon representing Saint Panteleimon, a Christian martyr and a great healer, whose feast day is celebrated on July 27th.

Miniature icon (7x10 cm) painted and signed by Ana Drăgan (DAM).

The holy, glorious and right-victorious Greatmartyr Panteleimon (born Pantaleon) the Unmercenary Healer was martyred under the reign of Emperor Maximian (ca. 305 A.D.).

Saint Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia to the pagan Eustorgius and Saint Eubula. Originally named Pantaleon (“in all things like a lion”), he took the name Panteleimon (“all-merciful”) after converting to Christianity under the guidance of Saint Hermolaus. Trained as a physician, he devoted his skills to caring for the poor, the sick, and imprisoned Christians, healing them freely in the name of Jesus Christ.

His growing reputation led other physicians to denounce him to Emperor Maximian. When challenged to a contest of healing, Panteleimon cured a paralyzed man through prayer, leading to the man’s execution and the saint’s arrest. He endured numerous tortures unharmed, and during his final prayer before execution, a heavenly voice called him by name. After his beheading, an olive tree near the site miraculously bore fruit, and his relics became objects of veneration in various Christian monasteries.
