"Sleeping Rusalka"
Acrylic painting on canvas by Ana Drăgan.
The painting measures 30x30 cm and is completed with a handcrafted wooden frame in a dark rosewood finish, measuring about 2.5 cm in width.
Signed and dated - Ana Drăgan.
”Rusalka” is the Slavic name for ”Mermaid”. Although this creature is associated with water, folklore reveals her as a temptress who can take many forms, including this of a woman with a bird's body. Rusalka is a sweet illusion that can lead to death. Although her attractiveness incites to love and lust, her beastly body forbids any relationship with a human being.
God, if there weren't to be
This seed of a ghostly kin
This seed of a ghostly kin, alas!
There wouldn't be mermaids
With their green sea weed hair,
With their green sea weed hair, alas!
With longing and sweetness in their song,
Who ever hears it perishes,
Who ever hears it perishes, alas!
- Pheonix, Sirena
